The St. George Theater-it's a shame
Gee, almost as much controversy surrounding this place as CTV!
I had a nice tour of the place late last year, I think she's doing an admirable job trying to retore this old venue....BUT when I asked about showing FILMS there, she expressed apathy bordering on distain-no interest what-so-ever. Her main concern is to focus only on attracting fat-cat politicos and corporate big-wigs for over-priced dinner and theater "events".
Ummm...news flash, toots-the St. George was A MOVIE THEATER! An incredible injustice is being done by not bringing that aspect back! I even forwarded info to them on an organization that installs free, new digital projection equipment into old theaters and plays independent films in them.
But Noooo, they would rather sell 300 tickets (at 65+ bucks a pop) to some third-rate live "act". It's a shame.
To see what can be done with an old theater & some dedicated movie fans, go to loewsjersey.org and be amazed.
In the meantime, any wealthy investors out there want to turn the Lane into an indy theater?...contact me.

Even Radio City shows movies (at least they did a couple of years ago). They ran classic summer movies during the summer for one week and we saw Jaws there (with a live intro from Peter Benchley). I've seen Jaws a few times but watching it at Radio City was a cool experience.
